The 9th meeting of the UIC Covid-19 Task Force was attended remotely on 23 June by around 40 participants from across the globe.

Marc Guigon, Chair of the Task Force, welcomed the participants and gave an update on the current status of work, the international situation with regard to Covid-19, the list of guidance documents published so far, future publications and LinkedIn topics.

A series of interesting presentations were then delivered by representatives from AAR (Association of American Railroads), ADIF and DSB (Denmark).

The key themes of the presentations included:

  • Disinfection of rail cars using ultraviolet systems
  • Challenges of traffic management and resumption of business activity
  • Experience of lockdown and reopening
  • Development of new technologies and applications

Two presentations were also given by two internal members of the UIC Task Force on forthcoming publications.

Laura Petersen, UIC Security Division, spoke about the fourth guidance document about to be released entitled RAILsilience, back on the track. Based on results from the third Task Force questionnaire, the document focuses on the recovery period, passenger service resumption and the various measures being taken by railways post-confinement.

Philippe Lorand, UIC Passenger Department, spoke about another upcoming document entitled Masks, Ventilation and Social Distancing, also based on responses by railways and scheduled to be released next month.

All guidance documents can be consulted on UIC’s dedicated Covid-19 webpage, which is regularly updated with the latest news articles, webinars and other audiovisual material: https://uic.org/covid-19
