The upcoming COP26 conference in Glasgow will bring climate urgency to the forefront of governmental actions, putting transport emissions under pressure. Rail transport emissions have been reduced by 2% between 2000 and 2018, making rail the lowest emitter in comparison to other modes of transport. As such, rail transport and multimodality are important levers in addressing the challenge of reducing CO2 emissions in transport.
The 2021 Market Place Seminar, organised jointly by FIATA and UIC with the support of CLECAT, focuses on the enablers of multimodality in the Year of Rail. Digitalisation and corridor development will be addressed during the interactive sessions, together with concrete examples of multimodal enablers in the rail freight sector around the world, such as in Europe, India and South Africa.
Three sessions will feature top experts, such as Mario Apostolov of UNECE, Alexander Mironow of TransContainer Europe, Shankar Shinde of the Federation of Freight Forwarders’ Associations in India, Warwick Lord of the Cato Ridge Dry Port Project and Dr. Gerhard Troche of the EU Rail Freight Corridor ‘Amber’, amongst many others.
