HŽ Infrastruktura will soon begin work on the Dugo Selo – Križevci Railway Section Upgrade and Construction of Second Track. This is the largest railway infrastructure project with an estimated value of a billion and 517 million HRK, with 85 % of the co-financing obtained from EU funds.
After the State Commission for Supervision of Public Procurement Procedure issued a complete rejection of the bidder’s appeal regarding the selection of the work contractor on 8 April 2016, conditions were met for a work contract to be signed between HŽ Infrastruktura with the chosen consortium, made up of the following Croatian companies: DIV d.o.o., DALEKOVOD d.d., and ZAGREB-MONTAŽA d.o.o. Work is to begin during the summer of 2016, and the project is to be completed by the end of 2019.
The value of the contract is HRK 1,239,557,818.93.
“This is a big step for HŽ Infrastruktura, as well as for the entire Croatian economy. We are proud that this has made HŽ Infrastruktura into the body responsible for the largest project in the Republic of Croatia so far, which is co-financed by EU funds. This is a big day for our company, and I would like to thank everyone who has worked on this project. We are finally beginning with the work and we are extremely pleased because of it. This is a strategic project, with the help of which HŽ Infrastruktura will surely contribute to GDP increase, revitalisation of the civil engineering sector and the improvement of the railway traffic quality in Croatia. Additionally, we are happy about the fact that the project was also recognised by the European Union, which provides 85 % co-financing of the work and project supervision. This regards the section, which is a part of the Mediterranean Corridor, one of the two European transport corridors, which pass through Croatia and are a part of the European transport network. We are focused on priority investments, which are potentially the largest generator of growth and revenue.
The most reasonably priced offer was chosen and I believe that Croatian companies, which were chosen as contractors, together with the team of HŽ Infrastruktura, led by project manager Tihomir Lažeta, will do a great job”, said the President of HŽ Infrastruktura Management Board, Renata Suša.
Further project details:
- Planned activities within the project include, besides the railway section upgrade and construction of second track on the entire 38.2 km long line section, the construction of six bridges, including two road bridges and the reconstruction of seven existing bridges, cancellation of 17 level crossings and two passenger crossings and the construction of 11 new overpasses, one underpass and six subways, upgrade of electric traction fixed installations, modernisation of signalling and interlocking, as well as telecommunication devices and the construction of 25 kilometres of service roads. Upon project completion, the journey time from Dugo Selo to Križevci will be reduced from 30 to 18 minutes.
- The “Dugo Selo – Križevci Railway Section Upgrade and Construction of Second Track” project has been recognised as one of the priorities of railway network modernisation in the Republic of Croatia, and it is a part of a big project of setting up a high efficiency double-track railway line for mixed transport along the entire Mediterranean corridor RH2, which connects the Iberian Peninsula via the Port of Rijeka, Zagreb and Budapest with the Hungarian-Ukrainian border and TEN-T European network. Upon Croatia’s EU accession, the Port of Rijeka has become a point of entry/exit for the single European market, therefore, an increase of traffic volumes towards central European countries is expected, and this is the first project which connects Rijeka and Zagreb to the Hungarian rail network.
- The purpose of this project is the construction of a double-track line, with much more favourable characteristics for use, which will meet the requirements of corridor traffic and receipt of interoperable freight trains, enable the increase of line capacity and the quality of life for people living next to railway lines, with significant investment in noise protection, according to European standards.
