Hokkaido Railway Company and East Japan Railway Company hereby announce that they have finalised the outline for a plan to open the Hokkaido Shinkansen Line between Shin-Aomori and Shin-Hakodate Hokuto. Details are as follows.
Opening the Hokkaido Shinkansen Line to Shin-Hakodate Hokuto
Opening date: Saturday, March 26, 2016
Types/trips: 13 round trips a day
- Hayabusa (Between Tokyo and Shin-Hakodate Hokuto) 10 round trips/day
(Between Sendai and Shin-Hakodate Hokuto) 1 round trip/day
- Hayate (Between Morioka and Shin-Hakodate Hokuto) 1 round trip/day
(Between Shin-Aomori and Shin-Hakodate Hokuto) 1 round trip/day
Configuration: Series H5 and E5; 10-car trains
Details of the Shinkansen operating plan and other details will be announced when finalised.
Limited Express and Other Services on Conventional Lines
- All 12 round trips per day of the Super Hokuto and Hokuto limited express services will stop at Shin-Hakodate Hokuto Station and meet Shinkansen services to ensure convenience.
- Between Hakodate and Shin-Hakodate Hokuto, 16 round trips per day of a Shinkansen access train service, Hakodate Liner (basic 3-car configuration), will be established, and all services will connect with Shinkansen services.
- The Super Hakucho and Hakucho limited express services (between Shin-Aomori and Hakodate), the Hamanasu express service (between Aomori and Sapporo), and the Cassiopeia limited express service with sleeper cars (between Ueno and Sapporo) will be terminated subsequent to the opening of the Shinkansen.
