On 17 June 2015 UIC organised a workshop on Infrastructure Positioning and Track Absolute Coordinates.
The main objectives of the workshop were to discuss state-of-the-art techniques for infrastructure positioning and identify the needs for potential cooperation between the members.
Three items in particular were discussed:
- Absolute base track maintenance
- Data formats and exchange between end-users
- Economical models and limits
During the first part of the seminar, keynote presentations were given to present state-of-the-art practices, and to exchange on the current achievements and experiences within the networks.
Mr Ermakov, from Russian Railways (RZD), opened the presentation session with the description of the Complex System of Spatial Data on Railroad Infrastructure (CSSD RI) in Russia, presenting the current performances and projected extensions of RZD’s positioning system for asset management and track maintenance applications.
State-of-the-art practice of Absolute Based Track measurement and maintenance in China, France and Austria were successively presented by CARS, SNCF and ÖBB representatives.
Pr Veit, from TU Gratz and Mr Michelin from SNCF finally introduced the two challenging questions of economic modelling and life cycle management, and of the compatibility, quality and formats of topographic data systems, which are of primary importance for decision-making and cost-efficient use of absolute track positioning techniques.
During three parallel working sessions, visions, challenges and gaps were discussed by the experts, leading to concrete proposals for further cooperation in the three main fields of the seminar.
